A riot at Bob Wiley Detention Facility in California led to an unspecified number of inmates sustaining minor injuries. According to a report from the Tulare County Sheriff's Department, the riot started at about 10:30 a.m. Friday after inmates housed at the BWDF refused to return to their cells. The inmates then allegedly became aggressive and in an organized manner began resisting staff and attempted to assault staff in a riotous manner, the report states. After continually refusing to comply with staff orders, BWDF deputies, along with the assistance of other facilities including the Sheriff's Tactical Enforcement Personnel, entered to yard to restrain the inmates and return them to their cells. Some inmates suffered minor injuries, including abrasions, and were treated by medical staff. Sheriff's officials were not available for comment late-afternoon Friday. The Sheriff's report indicated the investigation continued Friday. |
