| Jail: Visitor with drugs winds up as inmate instead |

An Owensboro man who went to the Daviess County Detention Center for a visit last week ended up staying as an inmate after jail deputies say they apprehended him with a large amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine. Daviess County Jailer Art Maglinger said the jail was conducting inmate visitations shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday when deputies received anonymous information that a man in the lobby, Benjamin A. Kiper Jr., 27, of the 800 block of Canterbury Road, had a warrant for his arrest. Maglinger said Kiper had signed up to visit an inmate. The jail staff called Daviess County Sheriff's Department deputies to serve the warrant but decided to apprehend Kiper when he tried to leave the premises before sheriff's deputies arrived.
