Escape attempt suspected at county jail

Authorities are investigating a possible escape attempt from the Camden County , N.J., Jail that may have involved a confessed killer.

Jail officers discovered a small hole in the corner of a window in a fifth floor cell block shared by five inmates, including Anthony C. Rodesky, who pleaded guilty in state Superior Court last Tuesday to two counts of felony murder.

The officers found the hole after spotting a cracked window.

"The hole was not yet big enough for anyone to get through, but it appears that one or more of the inmates were planning some sort of escape attempt," Camden County spokesman Ken Shuttleworth told the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill.

The five inmates have been moved to other areas of the jail, but none were charged with attempted escape.

Shuttleworth would not name the other four inmates involved in the investigation.

This isn't the first time that Rodesky, of Berlin Township, has been suspected in an escape.

While serving a term at East Jersey State Prison in Rahway, Rodesky escaped from a work detail for about 20 minutes in February 1998 before he was re-arrested.

Rodesky, of Berlin Township, admitted killing James Mickno of Maple Shade and Ranjit Patel of Voorhees in separate incidents this year.
