Connecticut Department of Corrections Announces Offender Death |

The Connecticut Department of Correction is conducting an internal investigation into an incident where an offender was taken unresponsive to a local emergency room and later died. At approximately 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the New Haven Correctional Center, an offender refused to exit the shower area. After several attempts, responding staff members were able to restrain the offender in the facility’s medical unit. Shortly thereafter, the offender became unresponsive. Staff immediately initiated lifesaving measures and activated 911. The offender was taken via ambulance to a local emergency room for treatment and pronounced at 9:40 a.m. The Connecticut State Police were contacted and its Central District Major Crime Unit is investigating. The Department of Correction is conducting an internal investigation into the incident as well. Preliminary findings have resulted in a Correctional Lieutenant being placed on Administrative Leave. |
