The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate after he was found unresponsive in his cell, according to information from the office. At approximately 3 a.m. Thursday officials responded to the call at the jail. Charles Thomas Merkelz, 34 of Kirbyville, was pronounced dead at the jail, officials said. Read More. |
