Six inmates transferred after an early-morning Cheatham County Jail fight |

Seventy-six inmates over capacity, an altercation broke out in the Cheatham County Jail in the early morning hours Tuesday. Six inmates — allegedly the ones that instigated the fight — were transferred to the Robertson County Jail later that day. Sheriff Mike Breedlove said there were no serious injuries, but a “staff member or an inmate (could get) injured or killed” if county officials don’t address the jail’s conditions soon. Breedlove said there were "many (inmates) involved," and noted that one or two of them tried to help deputies break up the fight. Some were “hit about the face” during the fight and a nurse had to come in; however, he didn’t believe any inmates had to be transported for medical attention when he spoke with the Times over the phone Tuesday afternoon.
