MACON, Ga. (WGXA) - A bipartisan group of Georgia legislators have introduced a bill in the state House of Representatives to repeal the death penalty. House Bill 702 was introduced on Thursday, March 29 Republican Rep. Brett Harrell, of Snellville. Backers of the bill include Democrats Scott Holcomb, William Boddie, Robert Trammel, and Republicans Scott Turner and Bill Werkheiser. "First, evidence has shown that it's really not a deterrent to violent crime," Harrell said, adding that "death cases typically cost three times what it would cost to sentence someone to life without parole."
