North Dakota State Hospital inmate charged with attempted murder |

JAMESTOWN, N.D. — A North Dakota State Hospital patient was charged Monday, April 1, in Southeast Judicial District Court in Jamestown with attacking and attempting to kill a hospital employee last week. Jason Benefiel, 31, is being held in the Stutsman County Correctional Center where he was charged with Class A felony criminal attempted murder and two counts of Class C felony aggravated assault. According to court records, the responding North Dakota Highway Patrol officer said the attack occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. March 29 in a wing of the LaHaug Building. The trooper said the female hospital worker testified that she was cleaning sinks in a men’s bathroom when someone started to choke her from behind and dragged her backward to a hallway.
