A North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women minimum custody offender who left her work assignment on Thursday is back in custody after being captured Friday morning in Wayne County. Offender Gayle Newcombe was captured by local law enforcement at approximately 1:45 a.m. The State Capitol Police, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Fremont Police Department, DPS Prison Emergency Response Team and various NCDPS staff all provided assistance in the capture of the 44-year-old Newcombe.
