Oregon jail inmate accused of hiding lighter, setting uniform on fire while in cell |

An Oregon inmate stripped off his jail uniform and set it on fire 15 minutes after guards locked him into a Springfield jail cell, police say. Richard A. Rierson, 41, used a small lighter to start the fire, triggering a fire alarm at the Springfield Municipal Jail, according to Springfield Police Lt. Tom Rappé. The flames spread to a nearby mattress before staff extinguished the fire. Rappé said it’s not yet clear where Rierson hid the lighter.
