Cuomo deploys 216,000 sandbags, inmate crews to combat rising Lake Ontario waters |

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has directed multiple state agencies to prepare for flooding in communities along the Lake Ontario shoreline ahead of impending precipitation this week. Lake Ontario water levels are more than a foot above average right now, and there is no word on when outflows will be increased. The Governor has ordered the State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services to deploy 216,000 sandbags at strategic locations in Cayuga, Jefferson, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Oswego, St. Lawrence and Wayne Counties. The division may also use 6,771 feet of aquadam to protect shoreline properties where needed. Read More. |
