Report: Inmate’s death in Sumter County due to suicide |

WILDWOOD — A Sumter County Sheriff’s Office report concluded there was no foul play in the death of an inmate awaiting transfer to the Marion County Jail to face charges and the case has been closed. According to the report, a pathologist at the 5th Judicial Medical Examiner’s Office notes Hasan Alexander Campbell’s death was due to asphyxia “via ligature hanging suicide.” Sumter County Sheriff’s Office officials interviewed corrections staff who were on duty at the time of Campbell’s death and their statements were consistent to what was observed at the location, detectives said.
