‘Approximately’ 25 inmates attacked Auburn corrections officers, police union says |

AUBURN, N.Y. -- Two incidents that sent 12 Auburn Correctional Facility officers to the hospital stemmed from an attack by 25 inmates on corrections officers, according to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association. On May 14, the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said several officers from the facility had been taken to the hospital after several incidents at the prison. The first of those incidents happened on May 11 at approximately 3:45 p.m. Two officers escorted two inmates to their cells for “disciplinary reasons,” according to a release from NYSCOPBA spokesman James Miller. As the inmates were escorted to he gate entrance of the facility, the inmates refused to go back to their cells and attacked the officers, the release said. “Approximately” 25 inmates joined the attack, Miller said.
