Sheriff's deputies searched June 13 for two inmates who escaped from the St. Mary Parish (La.) Jail's recreation yard just before noon. Sheriff's Office spokesman John Sonnier said investigators are still trying to determine how the inmates, one awaiting trial on armed robbery charges and the other serving a drug sentence, managed to escape. He said the men possibly could have cut the fence that encloses the jail recreation yard. The inmates were identified as Corey Lee Percle, 25, and Cecil Michael Stratton, 26, both of Morgan City. Stratton was awaiting trial on charges of simple criminal damage to property, burglary of a pharmacy and armed robbery, Sonnier said. He said Percle had been sentenced earlier this month to 10 years in prison on a cocaine charge. Sonnier said the deputies had no leads on where the men might be as of June 13. "Everybody is out searching the area," Sonnier said. |
