Inmate dies at Saskatoon's Regional Psychiatric Centre |

The death of an inmate serving a two-year sentence at a federal facility in Saskatoon is under review by Correctional Services Canada. Benjamin Toutsaint died at the Regional Psychiatric Centre (RPC) on May 18, according to Correctional Services Canada (CSC). Toutsaint, 32, began serving a two-year sentence for assault on Oct. 25, 2018, CSC said Tuesday in a news release. One of three federal prisons in Saskatchewan, the RPC opened in 1978 and is rated to hold 204 inmates. According to Correctional Services Canada, the facility was designed as “a mental hospital with the security provisions to also function as a federal correctional institution.” CSC said it would “review the circumstances” of Toutsaint’s death, and that its policy is to notify the coroner’s office.
