Two Chambers County (Ala.) Sheriff's Department officers have been charged under a new law with custodial sexual misconduct. Derrick Omar Burton, 21, of LaFayette, and Brian Deval Fuller, 22, of Auburn, have each been charged under a law enacted last year that makes it unlawful for a corrections officer or jailer to engage in sexual conduct with a person who is incarcerated. Burton has been charged with two counts of violating that law and Fuller with one count. Custodial sexual misconduct is a Class C felony, punishable up to 10 years in a state penitentiary. Burton and Fuller were arrested following an investigation conducted at the request of Sheriff Sid Lockhart. Each officer's employment with the Chambers County Detention Facility has been terminated. |
