SC prison riot: At least 41 inmates investigated on homicide allegations, records show |

At least 41 inmates who were at Lee Correctional Institution have been investigated on homicide allegations following the deadly riot at the maximum-security prison near Bishopville, an exclusive analysis of records shows. Twenty-nine inmates who were incarcerated at the prison on the day of the riot, April 15, 2018, appear to remain under investigation by law enforcement authorities, according to state Department of Corrections records. Twelve others were cleared in a period between July 2018 and May 2, according to records. The records were provided by the Department of Corrections last week in response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by The Greenville News and the Independent Mail in 2018. Read More. |
