LANCASTER — The shelter dogs rescued by Paws For Life K9 Rescue are placed with incarcerated trainers at California State Prison Los Angeles County and given a second chance at finding a forever home. The dogs, in turn, give their trainers a second chance. They are trained by the inmates as service dogs for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder. Or they are trained as canine good citizens for adoption by a loving family. “It’s a different experience,” trainer Mike Snyder said as he sat with Sherman, a white and brown-marbled pit bull mix Thursday morning before the start of a graduation ceremony for the program’s canines.
