A N.C. prison inmate climbed a fence and escaped a minimum-security facility in Gaston County on Saturday night -- briefly. But less than five hours later, Clinton D. Rucker was headed back to the Gaston Correctional Center in Dallas, N.C. He had been serving time in the prison since March. Rucker, 28, stole a gray minivan after he broke out at 8:20 p.m., prison officials said. Police caught up with him about 3 a.m. Sunday, after Rucker phoned a relative, who then called authorities and said Rucker was ready to go back. Prison records show he had, at most, five months left on an eight-month sentence. Now he faces disciplinary action and formal charges for his escape and the stolen vehicle, said Sgt. William Holloway of the prison. His original crime? Car theft. Said Holloway: "It looks like he still had the fever." |
