Escambia County Corrections Department wants to hire 93 new workers to staff new jail |

As Escambia County prepares to open its new jail facility, the county's Corrections Department wants to hire 93 new employees, including 29 corrections officers and 48 detention assistants. The new positions would help staff the new $132 million jail that will replace the Central Booking and Detention Facility that was closed after an explosion in 2014. The new jail is on track to be completed next year. When the jail exploded in 2014, the county had about 450 corrections workers, and after the explosion, that number dropped.
