Jail stabbing leads to attempted murder charge |

A 23-year-old inmate is charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing that occurred Thursday in the Etowah County Detention Center, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton. Investigator Will Farley said Austin Kane Abernathy of Southside was served with a warrant while in jail. The inmate he allegedly stabbed was treated and released at a local hospital for his injuries. Horton said the shank used in the stabbing was small and didn’t cause a deeper, more serious injury. He said he jail staff already had issues with Abernathy, serious enough that he’d been transferred to Calhoun County. Read More. |
