An Iowa man convicted in a highly publicized 1999 hostage situation has died by suicide while serving out his sentence at the Anamosa State Penitentiary, officials said. Wayne Eugene Sinclair, 52, was pronounced dead Saturday morning after what the Department of Corrections called an apparent suicide, according to a DOC news release. Officials are waiting on autopsy results from the State Medical Examiner to confirm Sinclair's cause of death. Sinclair has been incarcerated at the Anamosa State Penitentiary since November 1999. He was serving a sentence of up 82 years with a mandatory minimum of 44 years for crimes committed during a four day long police standoff, according to Register archives. Read More. |
