Firefighters rescued 15 inmates and an undisclosed number of correctional officers trapped in an elevator at the Passaic County jail on Thursday, Paterson authorities said. At 8:22 p.m. Thursday, Paterson firefighters received a call for more than a dozen inmates and correctional officers stuck in an elevator at the jail, said Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Murray. One man had a minor injury and was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Murray said. An incident report jointly filed by four Paterson fire companies sheds light on the Thursday night rescue, but still blurs the exact breakdown of how many inmates and how many officers were trapped in the elevator.
