| Officer charged with having sex with inmate |

A jail officer was charged last Monday with having sex with an inmate she was supervising. Somerset County (N.J.) Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said Demi-Anne Varchi-Little, 25, of Hillsborough, a corrections officer with the Somerset County Sheriff's Office, is charged with official misconduct and criminal sexual contact. The incident took place on April 8 when she was supervising a group of inmates working in the jail's kitchen, the prosecutor said. During that time, she went with one of the inmates into a private office area near the kitchen for about an hour, Forrest said. During that time, another corrections officer entered the office and saw the two engaged in sexual activity, and reported it to a superior. The charges were filed after an internal affairs investigation. Varchi-Little was released on $10,000 bail. No telephone listing could be found for her last Monday evening. |
