A 39-year old inmate at the Boone County Detention Center work camp was found dead in his bed last week, Boone County sheriff's deputies said. Investigators at the scene found nothing to suggest foul play in the death of William Burden, deputies said. An autopsy was being performed last Tuesday, but preliminary findings are not yet available. At the time of his death, Burden, of Warsaw, was sharing a dorm-style room with 17 other prisoners. Burden, who was awaiting sentencing on DUI and driving under suspension convictions, was on work release, meaning he left camp to go to work and then returned to the detention center after work. He checked in at 4:50 p.m. Monday and was alive at the 11 p.m. head count. Deputy jailers found him unresponsive at the 7 a.m. wakeup Tuesday, said Deputy Tom Scheben, a sheriff's spokesman. The work camp is a minimum-security facility that currently houses 68 inmates. All inmates serving time there do some type of work. |
