A former McLennan County, Texas, Jail inmate who suffered an electrical shock while working in the jail kitchen has settled his legal claim with the county. Jeremy DeGrate, a former county jail trusty, and the county's insurance carrier have resolved DeGrate's claim against the county for $10,000, said Waco attorney Mike Dixon, who represents McLennan County. DeGrate was either mopping the kitchen floor or was standing in a puddle of water on the kitchen floor when he came in contact with a 220-volt electrical outlet. Dixon said an investigation by the county revealed that the outlet was faulty, adding that the county took care of his immediate medical needs, compensated DeGrate for whatever future medical expenses he may incur and for pain and suffering. McLennan County commissioners approved the payment to DeGrate this week. |
