| N.J. will merge operations of 2 youth prisons for $13M in budget savings |

The state will close the main building at Albert C. Wagner Youth Correctional Facility in Burlington County and move its 300 inmates to neighboring Garden State Youth Correctional Facility as part of a state budget cost-cutting move to trim $13 million in fiscal year 2020. Wagner’s operations, including two remaining buildings with another 300 offenders, will become satellite facilities of the larger Garden State prison, the state Department of Corrections (DOC) announced Thursday evening. No layoffs will occur; staffers at Wagner will be relocated to other state prison facilities. Both prisons are next door to each other in Chesterfield, outside Bordentown, and house young adult offenders.
