Former inmate sues Park County over loss of leg |

A Mexican immigrant has sued Park County, Colo. alleging that his seven-day stay in a filthy, overcrowded jail cell in Fairplay cost him his leg. Lawyers for Moises Carranza-Reyes, a 29-year-old who remains in the United States illegally, say county officials sacrificed their client's constitutional rights in order to turn a profit - and left federal taxpayers paying most of his $1 million hospital bill. Jail Inmate's Wedding To Cost Taxpayers $600 dyk Associated Press A federal judge says an Illinois prisoner being held in the Kenosha County, Wisc., Jail can marry his long-time girlfriend. The attorney for Marvel Thompson -- also known as the "King of the Black Disciples" in Chicago -- plans to deliver the court's order to officials in Kenosha this week. Thompson is awaiting sentencing in Kenosha after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine. The ceremony would cost Kenosha taxpayers about $600. Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth says that's $600 too much. |
