JACKSON, MI – Those wanting to visit Cell Block 7 are running out of time to experience what life was like behind bars in a Jackson prison.
The Ella Sharp Museum has announced it’s permanently closing the prison museum it opened five years ago at the former State Prison of Southern Michigan. The final day of operation is Dec. 29.
High operational costs were part of the decision to close the five-floor, 516-cell, seven-block building, Ella Sharp Museum Executive Director Diane Gutenkauf said.
