JACKSON TWP. — A state inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas in Jackson Township is facing charges alleging he coordinated plans to kill a former prosecutor in Centre County. William Carl Matthews, 53, allegedly solicited a hit man on behalf of Dana Elroy Smith, 56, to kill a Centre County attorney who prosecuted Smith’s son nearly 10 years ago. Matthews communicated with Smith, another person and the alleged hit man by telephone and letters, according to court records. Smith, of State College, was arraigned last week on charges of criminal solicitation to commit homicide and criminal conspiracy to commit homicide. He remains jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility without bail. Read More. |
