| State discusses purchase of private prison in Perry County because of Holman closing |

Gov. Kay Ivey’s office has had discussions about the possible purchase of a vacant, private prison in Perry County because of an urgent need for prison beds with the partial closing of Holman Correctional Facility that was announced on Wednesday. "Our office is aware that this is an issue that could be explored, and we have had some discussions,” Ivey press secretary Gina Maiola said in an email. “All options remain on the table. However, at this time, there is no formal plan to do so.” The Perry County Correctional Center is owned by GEO Group, a large private prison company, and has been vacant for years.
