Lightning strikes outside prison, inmate killed |

One inmate was killed and five inmates and two prison guards were injured in a lightning strike outside the Chillicothe Correctional Institution in Ohio on Wednesday night. The inmates were playing softball when lightning struck the field around 8 p.m., Warden Tim Brunsman said. The victims' names were not released. The injured were taken to Adena Regional Medical Center in this city 45 miles south of Columbus. Their conditions were not available. The Chillicothe Correctional Institution houses approximately 2,600 inmates and has been open since 1966, according to its Web site. |
