A Resident of Department of Correction Contracted Halfway House who was admitted to Yale New Haven Hospital after exhibiting flu-like symptoms has not tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. After receiving the news about the offender’s condition, and further consultation with members of the New Haven Health Department the Roger Sherman House has returned to normal operations. Under the advisement of the New Haven Health Department, and out of an abundance of caution, the residents and staff at the halfway house on Wednesday, March 18 refrained from leaving the halfway house pending confirmation of the test results. “I commend the staff of the Roger Sherman House, their parent company The Connection, Inc., and our Parole and Community Services staff for their professional and judicious handling of this situation,” said Department of Correction Commissioner Rollin Cook. “The precautionary actions taken were in the best interests of the offenders under their supervision, their staff and the public at large.” To date, no offender under the supervision of the Department of Correction has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. There are currently 59 offenders housed in the 61-bed Department of Correction contracted program. Staff from The Connection, Inc., the parent company which runs the Roger Sherman halfway house is working in conjunction with the Department of Correction to continue to monitor the situation. |
