A former detention officer at the Platte County jail in Wheatland, Wyo., has been charged with having sex with a female inmate. Two jail officers have been fired as a result. One of them is Jeremy Michael King, who worked as a jail control clerk for about a year. He has been charged with second-degree sexual assault, mistreating a person in institution, and official misconduct. King has not been arrested. A warrant has been issued. The female inmate has been moved to another facility. She was awaiting trial on drug charges when she was in the Wheatland jail. Platte County Attorney Eric Alden says there's a chance that others may be criminally charged. In addition, a lawsuit is in the works against the county on behalf of three female inmates who contend their civil rights were violated by sexual abuse from jail officers. |
