| State to probe inmate's death at CCA prison |

The Office of the Inspector General will investigate the death of an inmate who was housed at the Corrections Corporation of America in Bridgeport, Texas. Julia Martinez, 29, collapsed June 22 and was pronounced dead a short time later at Wise Regional Health System. Warden Gwen Bowers said Martinez reportedly collapsed in the facility's outdoor exercise area. Paramedics were called and transported Martinez to WRHS. Bowers said the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is in the OIG's jurisdiction and that an investigation is routine. "They sent two investigators that night," Bowers said. Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace C.D. Archer ordered an autopsy. Bowers said a memorial service would be held at the facility for inmates and staff. |
