Gregory Holt, 29, an inmate at Oakdale Federal Correctional Institution in Louisiana, pled guilty recently before U.S. District Judge Donald Walter for making threats against immediate family members of the President of the United States. According to court documents Holt wrote several letters while incarcerated at the prison, threatening to blow up government buildings and to kidnap and inflict bodily harm upon the daughters of President Bush. During an interview in August 2004, Holt admitted to writing the letters to appear tough to other inmates. Holt claimed that he never intended to carry out the threats and he never mailed the letters. Instead he gave the letters to another inmate. Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date to be determined by the court. Holt faces a maximum sentence of five years, a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of supervised release of up to three years. This investigation was conducted by the U.S. Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James T. McManus. |
