Sheriff's deputies captured an escaped inmate after he broke into two homes last Wednesday and got into a scuffle with two residents, police said. Latrelle Acharr Richardson, 25, of Hampton, Ga., was taken into custody about 7 p.m. near the intersection of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Buford Highway. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment of stab wounds he received earlier in the day during a home invasion. Richardson escaped from supervised work detail last Tuesday. At 11:05 a.m. last Wednesday, he broke into a duplex at Mitchell Road and Goodwick Way, said Capt. Brian Harr of the Norcross Police Department. Police believe Richardson broke a window and cut himself while trying to get into the duplex. He was tending to the wound in the kitchen when a man and woman who reside at the duplex came home and surprised him, Harr said. Richardson allegedly got into a struggle with the couple, and he was stabbed by a pocket knife the woman was carrying before fleeing on foot. "He may be injured, we do not know to what extent," Harr said. "The residents are fine. They were a little surprised." Authorities said Richardson knew the address because a letter had been mailed to him from there while he was incarcerated. The couple did not know Richardson, but one of their friends may be familiar with him, Harr said. Officers had gone to the house looking for Richardson last Tuesday night, and the residents recognized him from the photo they had been shown. Later in the day, another resident in the area came home to find Richardson at their home. While deputies were at the residence, a 911 call came in about a suspicious person in the area, said Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Stacey Kelley. Officers set up a perimeter and a Gwinnett police K-9 found Richardson's trail, Kelley said. The deputies apprehended him about 7 p.m. and then transported him to the hospital. |
