A former officer at the Suffolk County (Mass.) House of Correction pleaded guilty to charges he smuggled drugs into the jail for inmates to use and sell. Thirty-eight-year-old Paul A. Davis of Boston was suspended without pay after he was arrested in April of 2003 on federal drug trafficking charges. Prosecutors say Davis, a correction officer at the Bradston Street facility, conspired with a group of inmates and "outside associates" to bring small quantities of heroin, cocaine, Oxycontin and marijuana into the jail. Davis also pleaded guilty last week to lying to investigators when they questioned him about the scheme. Sentencing in U-S District Court is scheduled for October 5th. Until then, Davis is free on bond. |
