An inmate serving a life sentence for aggravated rape managed to climb a fence at the Louisiana State Penitentiary and get through razor wire to escape, but was caught in a prison cornfield 38 minutes later, authorities said. George Labry, 42, was surrounded by officers and West Feliciana Parish sheriff's deputies and surrendered without incident Monday, said Warden Burl Cain. Labry, who is serving his fifth sentence in the prison, was housed in Camp D, an 850-inmae camp that is one of the seven prisons at Angola. Cain said thermal imagers and non-barking bloodhounds were used to find Labry. The inmate had a sack of baby powder with him to confuse the bloodhounds' smell, but "that didn't work too well," Cain said. |
