An inmate who was killed in a fight at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City has been identified as a convict from Thorntown. The LaPorte County Coroner says 30-year-old James Trei III died from a stab wound in the fight Friday. Trei was serving a 50-year sentence for sexual misconduct with a minor and two 20-year sentences for criminal confinement. He had been sentenced in Boone County in 1995. Two inmates from the prison's C cell block began fighting in a dining room Friday. After officers subdued the two and began locking others in their cells, they found two other inmates had been seriously injured. The Indiana State Police are investigating the death. |
