New Castle County (Del.) Police Officer First Class Brian Taylor was working foot patrol in Lafayette Place Apartments near New Castle on Wednesday, when somebody gave him a tip about an escaped inmate hiding out there. Taylor went to the apartment described by the unidentified tipster "and arrested the inmate without incident," said county police spokesman Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. Donald Osgood, 27, of Bear, was wanted for felony escape after conviction, for leaving the Sussex Community Correction Center in Georgetown after an authorized absence from the grounds for work, prison officials said. He was serving six months for failing to re-register as a sex offender, they said. Osgood was one of four escapees the Department of Correction reported Wednesday who are back in custody. A fifth was found dead in his home after a suspected suicide, according to Department of Correction spokeswoman Gail Stallings Minor. Investigating officers from Delaware State Police found Terry Holland, 31, dead at his home in Dover, Minor said. Holland, serving one year of work-release at the Sussex Community Correction Center for violating probation on a third-degree burglary charge, had been wanted for escape after failing to return to the center Monday after a home pass. Police are investigating his death. Two other escapees were reported Wednesday as recaptured. They had been missing from Sussex Community Correction Center since June 24. |
