A West Baton Rouge Parish, La., Prison inmate assigned to a work-release detail at a Baton Rouge firm walked away from the job site early last Thursday, but surrendered to authorities in the pre-dawn hours last Friday. He faces prosecution on an escape count. A spokesman for the West Baton Rouge work-release program said Codie Ray of Houma left his work assignment at Manda's Fine Meats, 2445 Sorrel Ave., shortly after 7 a.m. last Thursday. He surrendered about 4 a.m. last Friday. Ray was serving time on a conviction for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, deputies said. All those assigned to the work-release program in West Baton Rouge Parish are considered to be non-violent prisoners and are nearing the end of their prison terms. But by his unauthorized leave, Ray became a fugitive facing additional jail time if convicted of the crime of escape, deputies said. |
