| Women escape from jail bus |

Internal and criminal investigations are going on right now to determine how two female prisoners escaped from a Franklin County (Ohio) Sheriff's Department bus. A police detective who witnessed the escape helped stop one woman's dash for freedom. Prisoners are transferred from jail to court and back every day in sheriff department buses. But one routine transport caught the eye of police detective Amy Morris. "I just happened to look and saw two people hanging on the under carriage of the bus," Morris told 10TV. As the busload of inmates pulled away, Detective Morris watched from across the street. That's when she saw two bodies drop from behind the bus -- at Mound and Front streets. "They both dropped off the undercarriage and onto the street," Morris said. Mari Morrisey and Tracey Mobley are the two women in question. Detective Morris says she saw Mobley run. Morris, who was unarmed, gave her purse to a security guard and started chasing after Mobley. Morris caught up with Mobley in a grassy area near Interstate 70 westbound. "I did ask her what she thought she was doing. And she just said, 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done it.'" Mari Morrisey was later caught by a private detective who happened to be driving behind the bus. The sheriff's office says both inmates were handcuffed as they left the courthouse. How they got out of their shackles remained unclear. Both inmates were in jail on misdemeanor charges. |
