Officials said three inmates fled from police custody Tuesday while on a work detail at Jackson, Mississippi's Lanier High School.
Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillan said in a news release that Travis Sentell Smith, 20, Eugene Palmer Jr., 21, and Jerry Jerome Harris, 23, walked away from the work detail about 1 p.m.
He said the inmates, who were part of a crew painting and cleaning classrooms at the school, are nonviolent offenders working off fines with the city of Jackson.
McMillan urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the three inmates to call authorities.
