A former Wisconsin Department of Corrections employee has been convicted for stealing medications at a Waupun prison. Jason L. Kempfer, 27, of Waupun, entered a guilty plea last week in Dodge County Circuit Court on charges of theft and possession of a controlled substance. Dodge County Circuit Court Judge Andrew Bissonnette placed Kempfer on probation for two years and ordered him not to possess or use any controlled substance or drug paraphernalia, not go on the grounds of any correctional institution, to undergo alcohol assessment and treatment and pay court costs and fines. According to the criminal complaint, prison officials at Dodge Correctional Institution launched an investigation when medications were discovered missing from an inmate's medication card in February 2005. Kempfer, who was terminated from his job as a correctional officer, later admitted to investigators that he had taken a total of five pain pills from two separate inmate medication cards on Feb. 14. |
