The Preston County sheriff's secretary says an inmate was found hanging in his cell around six o'clock Thursday morning and pronounced dead at Ruby Memorial Hospital about six hours later. The Preston County sheriff's secretary says the inmate faced sex offense charges and was scheduled for transfer to the North Central Regional Jail on Friday. The state Police have launched an investigation into the inmate's death. Less than two months ago, Mark George hung himself with clothes and a bed sheet. He was serving 15 to 35 years for three felony sex offenses. Deputies say they found Allan Kershaw hanging in his cell the next morning. Kershaw faced charges of trespassing and destruction of property. But deputies say that there was no indication that either of these men were unstable enough to commit suicide. Which leads inmates and police officials to wonder why they did it. The authorities haven't released the inmate's name yet. The State Police are still investigating his apparent suicide. Trooper Doherty says the body will go to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Charleston and that he does not believe this death is related to the others there. |
