Ohio State prison officials fired a nurse for failing to make sure an ambulance was called to the Pickaway Correctional Institution for an ill inmate who died. The nurse, Terry Sowers, 53, denies any wrongdoing and is appealing his dismissal. Inmate Jerry Graham of Cincinnati died Jan. 14 at the Ohio State University Medical Center. after a 40-minute delay in summoning an ambulance to the prison near Orient. Graham, 59, was three days from being freed on parole after serving 20 years on assault and rape convictions. Prison officials claim that Sowers didn't report that he had failed to reach the control center to request an ambulance. |
