An inmate escaped Wednesday morning from a prison transport vehicle when a corrections officer opened the door, police said. Ocean City police identified the Worcester County, Md., Jail inmate as Eric D. Curley, 34. They said responding officers chased Curley on foot, but lost track of him. At the time of the searches, officers last saw Curley in the vicinity of 70th Street at the beach. According to Ocean City police, Curley was last seen around 7:30 p.m. two miles west of U.S. Route 113 on Delaware Route 404 in Georgetown, Del. Police said he was wearing at that time a black golf shirt with the an "Emergency Technologies" logo on the left breast. Police said he was also wearing long blue jean pants and white shoes. They believe he also has in his possession a white T-shirt and green khaki shorts. Curley was arrested in Ocean City in June and charged on malicious destruction, burglary, gun and traffic counts. Authorities do not know how Curley escaped his leg shackles and handcuffs. About 40 officers, aided by K-9 units and a state police helicopter, searched for Curley for much of the day, but said a large crowd at the beach hindered their efforts. |
