Arizona authorities are reviewing security after a dangerous mental patient escapes from the Arizona State Hospital in Phoenix. Tuesday night, 34-year-old James Edward Bates escaped from a locked down mental ward. He then scaled a razor wire fence at 24th Street and Van Buren disappearing into the night, wearing only his underwear. Baffled hospital officials launched an evaluation of hospital security yesterday. They tried to reconstruct the getaway. Bates was captured last night in El Mirage after several residents reported seeing him near Dysart and Cactus Roads. State authorities described Bates as extremely dangerous. Bates was arrested April 9th for aggravated assault on a Tucson police officer. Last month, he was sent to the Arizona State Hospital for psychiatric care. He's also wanted in Las Vegas for murder. |
