An inmate on a work crew died Tuesday when the tree he was cutting fell in the wrong direction, Oregon corrections officials said. Carlin Samar Wortham, 24, died at the scene. He was part of an eight-man crew clearing trees from beneath power lines near Mapleton. The crew had been dispatched from the Shutter Creek Correctional Institution in North Bend. Department of Corrections spokesperson Perrin Damon said that the death was the first inmate fatality in the prison's 15-year history. About 190 minimum-custody inmates per day are dispatched from the 250-bed prison. Statewide, an average of 850 minimum-custody inmates are assigned to community work crews each day. Wortham began serving an eight-year sentence for robbery and burglary convictions out of Lane County in 2001. He was on track to making the transition back to the Oregon Summit Program in November. If things had gone well with the boot-camp-style program, he would have been released in February, officials said. |

That's exactly the kind of knowledge that I hate, as well. In fact, a lot of the people working at the tree care website love to get their knowledge in this way, but I don’t think that It's just the best way.
